Overseas research

It may be helpful for you to spend some time abroad - either to gain access to library facilities (e.g. archives) that are not available to you in Australia, or to spend time at an overseas department or research centre that has specialists in your area. If you think you may be interested, start thinking seriously about it well in advance.

Student exchanges

ANU has reciprocal agreements with some overseas universities. This means that you may be able to spend a period of time there while continuing to pay fees and draw your scholarship at ANU. Universities with which ANU has a reciprocal agreement include Beijing, Bielefeld, British Columbia, Grenoble, Indiana, Kyoto, McGill, Oxford, Penn State, Versailles, Vienna, and Wuppertal. For more information about student exchanges visit the International Education Office's website.

Funding

Faculty

You can apply for funding for overseas (and interstate) "fieldwork" trips to the Faculty, up to a maximum of $7000 (minus any money you have claimed for conference attendance). Applications must be submitted several months in advance; and you and your supervisor need to make a convincing case for why the trip is necessary. You should also be seen to be keeping your proposed costs as low as possible. Preference may be given to students who are at an earlier stage of their course.

RSSS

The Philosophy Program may be able to fund an overseas trip; discuss your proposal with your supervisor and/or the Head of Department.
